I assumed for my first post I should describe my brewing process. I started homebrewing in 2000 with the basic extract kit on the kitchen stove. I made enough good batches to want to upgrade to all grain brewing, mashing in coolers and boiling with a turkey fryer. Finally this year I decided I would prefer brewing with electricity for the conveince of being able to stay inside and the consitancey of maintaining the mash temps. Below are a few pictures of my system.
This is my single PID e-BIAB controller I built.
Element heating strike water to temperature
Yeast slant used to make a starter
Yeast starter
Grains milled
Mashing in
Removing the grain
Boiling
Packaged up the spent grain for re-use
Adding hops
Chilling wort
Hit my O.G.
Aerating wort
Pitching yeast
Trub leftover
Canning any leftover wort to use for starters later
Happy fermentor
The PID e-BIAB controller is awesome. And brewing in a bag is a simple, great idea. I have spent hours making a 5 gallon cooler into a mash tun and had good results but it takes a lot of time. So much time that I've gone back to using extract. This just might be a game changer.
ReplyDeleteLet me know if there is anything I can do to help you Andrew. I really enjoyed building the controller and it wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I can now complete a All Grain brew day in 3- 3 1/2 hours.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on going the eBIAB route, too, now that I have some new time and space constraints. Did you follow specific plans in building the controller from somewhere online? How much did that set you back if you don't mind me asking? I've been dreaming of the eBIAB on HighGravityBrew.com but my budget is just a bit too low.
ReplyDeleteI did not follow any specific plans. I designed my control box for what I wanted to accomplish and then started building from there. I knew I wanted one element and one pump. If you know what you want from your system its relatively easy to construct. Feel free you ask any questions you might have and I can help you out. This particular control box and element cost me somewhere around $500. The HighGravityBrew system is nice if you have the money and dont want to construct it yourself. But I enjoyed building mine.
